چکیده

Electricity systems are a central component of modern economies. Many electricity markets are transitioning from centrally regulated systems to decentralized markets. Furthermore, several electricity markets that have recently undergone this transition have exhibited extremely unsatisfactory results, most notably in California. These high stakes transformations require the introduction of largely untested regulatory structures. Suitable tools that can be used to test these regulatory structures before they are applied to real systems are required. Multi-agent models can provide such tools. To better understand the requirements such as tool, a live electricity market simulation was created. This experience helped to shape the development of the multi-agent Electricity Market Complex Adaptive Systems (EMCAS) model. To explore EMCAS' potential, several variations of the live simulation were created. These variations probed the possible effects of changing power plant outages and price setting rules on electricity market prices. Contact: Michael J. Multi-agent System for Short and Long-term Power Market Simulations

In this paper we give an overview of the Electricity Market Complex Adaptive System (EMCAS) model. EMCAS uses the agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) technique to model the market participants in electricity markets as different agents with different strategies, risk preferences, and objectives. The complex operations of an electricity market can be simulated across several time horizons...

Agent-Based Modeling of Day-Ahead Real Time Pricing in a Pool-Based Electricity Market

In this paper, an agent-based structure of the electricity retail market is presented based on which day-ahead (DA) energy procurement for customers is modeled. Here, we focus on operation of only one Retail Energy Provider (REP) agent who purchases energy from DA pool-based wholesale market and offers DA real time tariffs to a group of its customers. As a model of customer response to the offe...

Intelligent multi-agent modeling of the interbank network and evaluation of the impact of regulatory policies

agent-based modeling is an emerging computational technique that makes it possible to simulate complex economic systems, including the banking network, with a bottom-up approach. In this paper, the country's banking network is simulated with an intelligent multi-agent modeling model and indicates that these agents behave based on the adaptive learning. This modeling has been done with the aim o...

An E - Market System for Electric Utilities

iii ABSTRACT Multi-Agent Systems play a very important role in Distributed Artificial Intelligence. Many multi-agent systems have been built to represent a variety of social structures, such as teams (formed by a team leader recruiting qualified members for problem solving), alliances (temporary groups formed by agents with similar goal structures), coalitions (similar to alliances except the m...

Multi-agent simulation of competitive electricity markets: Autonomous systems cooperation for European market modeling

The electricity market restructuring, and its worldwide evolution into regional and even continental scales, along with the increasing necessity for an adequate integration of renewable energy sources, is resulting in a rising complexity in power systems operation. Several power system simulators have been developed in recent years with the purpose of helping operators, regulators, and involved...
